EU announces new regulations on egg labelling

08/02/2005 - 12:38:26
The European Union has announced new regulations requiring all eggs sold in the 25-member states to be labelled with a range of information.

Under the rules, all eggs must be individually stamped with a code identifying their country and farm of origin, their best-before date and whether they were produced organically or in factory conditions.

All egg packaging will include information helping consumers to understand the numerical code.

Leaflets explaining the code are also due to be sent to every household in the country in the coming days.
