Campaigners reiterate call for Dublin-Navan rail link

08/02/2005 - 10:27:18
Local campaigners have reiterated their call for a rail link between Dublin and Navan, Co Meath.

The call follows an Iarnród Éireann feasibility study which found that a new commuter rail service between the capital and Dunboyne, Co Meath would be economically viable.

The study found that the service would be able to recoup its own operating costs and would have positive social and economic effects in the area.

Damien Cassidy of the North/South Rail Initiative said there was no reason why this line could not be extended to Navan.

"If there is an economic case for Dunboyne, then so much greater is the economic case for Navan, where the town is growing rapidly," he said.
