Kenny: IRA statement was ‘affront to Irish people’
03/02/2005 - 12:42:31Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has described last night's statement from the Provisional IRA as "an affront to the Irish people".
In the statement, the IRA said it was withdrawing its offer to decommission all its weapons in protest at growing Irish-British antagonism towards the republican movement.
"Sinn Féin need to explain clearly the implications of this statement," Mr Kenny said today.
"There seems to be an implied threat that this business cannot proceed ahead unless they get their way in all circumstances on all issues."
