Harney: 'A&E reforms crucial to improving health service'
03/02/2005 - 11:00:14Health Minister Mary Harney has told the Oireachtas health committee that efforts to alleviate overcrowding in accident and emergency units are crucial to improving the overall health service.
Ms Harney was called before the committee today to answer questions about her 10-point plan to alleviate the long-running problem of overcrowding.
"No matter what we do at the tertiary level, no matter what we do with the acute hospital system, no matter what we do in cancer care or radiotherapy or rheumatology or whatever, if people have to wait on trolleys overnight to get into a hospital bed we will not have been successful," she said.
