Saints line up double deal
Southampton are in talks to sign Olivier Bernard and Henri Camara before the transfer deadline.
Harry Redknapp has already bolstered Saints’ squad since his arrival at St Mary’s but is frantically trying to complete a permanent move for Bernard and a loan agreement for Wolves striker Camara.
The Senegalese frontman is on loan to Celtic from the Black Country outfit, but the Scottish champions will release Camara providing they capture Newcastle’s Craig Bellamy on loan.
Meanwhile, Southampton have confirmed they have dropped their interest in Nottingham Forest’s Andy Reid. Despite having a bid accepted at the weekend, Tottenham are now set to sign Reid.
The transfer window closes at midnight and Smith admits the move for Camara is complicated due to the loan complications.
According to Saints’ official website, Wolves want striker Brett Ormerod on loan.
Assistant boss Jim Smith told www.saintsfc.co.uk: “We are interested in three players but can probably only get two.
“The Camara deal is a complicated one and right now there is more chance of it not happening but we would like him because he has electric pace and that is one thing we have been lacking.
“We need the pace to get in behind teams and this guy has it in abundance. He is someone we have wanted for some time but he has not done as well at Celtic as we thought he would have done.
“Bernard is talking to the chairman and he is a quality left-sided player who has been pretty much first-choice while he has been at Newcastle.
“He has had a fall-out over his contract up there and has become available. He is a player Harry has always admired and hopefully he will soon be playing for Southampton.”
