Rooney set for Everton 'reunion'

31/01/2005 - 13:56:59
Wayne Rooney could face Everton for the first time since his £27m (€39m) move to Manchester United after the sides were drawn together in the FA Cup fifth round.

Premiership leaders Chelsea will travel to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle and Coca-Cola Championship side Burnley will face Blackburn in a Lancashire derby on the weekend of February 19-20.

Sheffield United and West Ham will battle it out in a reply for the right to take on Premiership champions Arsenal at Highbury.

The winner of the replay between League One teams Brentford and Hartlepool will earn themselves a trip to Premiership strugglers Southampton, who beat south-coast rivals Portsmouth thanks to a controversial penalty at St Mary’s.

Alan Curbishley's Charlton will host Championship side Leicester at the Valley after the Addicks edged past plucky Yeovil at the weekend.

Derby or Fulham, who drew at Pride Park on Saturday, will meet Bolton at the Reebok Stadium, while Gary Megson could return to West Brom – who sacked him this season – as Nottingham Forest face the winner of the replay between the Baggies and Tottenham.

England striker Rooney has yet to face his former team-mates since leaving Everton in the summer, but may be given the chance when United head to Goodison Park on the weekend of February 19-20.

Everton last won the competition in 1995, beating Alex Ferguson’s United at Wembley thanks to Paul Rideout’s winner.

In the 1985 final, Kevin Moran became the first man ever to be sent off in a final as his United triumphed over Everton.
