Serial killer's execution postponed
The execution of a serial killer, which would have been New England’s first for 45 years, was postponed early today to address a possible conflict of interest with his lawyer.
TR Paulding, hired by Michael Ross last year to help speed up his execution, said his client did not request the postponement.
The execution was rescheduled for 2am Irish time on Tuesday (9pm Monday local time), according to Connecticut court officials.
The decision came hours after the Supreme Court lifted an order blocking Connecticut from putting Ross to death. Ross had been due to be executed at 7am GMT today.
Ross, 45, is on death row for the murders of four women. He decided last year to drop all appeals and die by injection, but his father and defence lawyers had waged their own battles to save his life and won a delay earlier this week, arguing that he was not mentally competent to decide his fate.
