Iraqis in Ireland travel to Britain to cast historic vote

A number of Iraqi expatriates here are travelling to Britain to cast their absentee votes ahead of tomorrow's historic election in their homeland.

While many are cynical about whether the poll can help bring peace and stability, Dublin-based Tariq Rashid says it's up to Iraqis to choose democracy.

He has said that the Sunni, Shia’a and Kurd communities have to compromise by producing a new constitution that guarantees the rights of all.

He believes that compromise is possible.

“They can do it if they want to do it; if they don’t follow a backwardness”, he said. "They have to develop an open mind, that’s the only way.”
