Dunn out for rest of season

28/01/2005 - 09:26:39
Birmingham City midfielder David Dunn will be out of action for the rest of the season with his hamstring problem after breaking down again in training.

The one-time England midfielder will now undergo surgery next week in a bid to regain fitness for the start of next season.

Dunn has had a nightmare time with the problem in the last 12 months which relates to damaged nerves in his back that affect his hamstrings.

Dunn had made a successful comeback in December and helped inspire City’s revival of four successive Premiership wins.

But the injury reared its head again early in the second half of the At Stephen's Day clash with Middlesbrough and he broke down in training yesterday.

Dunn has undergone another series of injections and rehabilitation work during the past four weeks.

But the latest reversal leaves him with no choice but to go under the knife in a bid to finally cure a long-term setback.

It will be a huge blow for Steve Bruce with the Blues manager believing his side produced their best football in the Premiership when Dunn arrived from Blackburn for £5million in the summer of 2003.

He helped catapult Birmingham into the Premiership top six but he has struggled for fitness in the past year.
