Gardaí investigating the murder of 11-year-old Robert Holohan in Cork have revealed that the youngster died of asphyxia, but said there was no evidence that he had been sexually assaulted.

The schoolboy's body was found on Wednesday in undergrowth near Inch Strand, around 11 miles from where he had disappeared close to his Midleton home more than a week earlier.

Gardaí said today a post mortem had concluded that he died of asphyxia, but there was no evidence of a sexual assault.

They also said investigations were ongoing to establish the time and place of the youngster's death.

Detectives investigating the murder have identified 30 potential suspects who they hope to interview in the coming days.
