Goodman given urgent diet alert
Heavyweight actor John Goodman has been ordered to lose 100 pounds in 2005 - or risk serious health problems.
The larger-than-life star begins every year with a similar target, but doctors have told him to take his health more seriously in 2005.
Goodman, 52, gave up drinking last year and now he's determined to lose his bulk.
He says: "I'm getting too old to be fooling around like this. I used to lose like 65, 70 pounds between January and April and then gain it all back in the summer. I've just got to do it and keep it off."
But he hopes a strict diet doesn't make him as crazy as quitting smoking did.
He adds: "I quit a year and a half ago and I turned into a werewolf. I went nuts. I've been smoking since I was in junior high school.
"I did a couple of episodes of The West Wing two years ago and I was in the middle of one of these psycho things and turned around and smacked the stage door as hard as I could and my fist immediately swelled up.
"Thank God I didn't break anything but that was the last episode I had - nicotine withdrawal."
