Israelis gunned down in West Bank

07/01/2005 - 15:56:23
Palestinian militants linked to presidential front runner Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement claimed responsibility for ambushing Israeli civilians today

Four Israelis were injured, one critically, when they were shot from a passing car near the West Bank town of Nablus.

The shooting came a day after Abbas met militants in Nablus and declared that they were ready to support his efforts to seek a ceasefire.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, a violent group with ties to Fatah, claimed responsibility for today’s shooting.

The Israeli settlers were driving near Tapuah junction when a car carrying the militants approached from the opposite direction and blocked the road, the military said.
