Schumacher gives £5m to tsunami fund

Motor racing ace Michael Schumacher has donated €7.5m to aid the victims of the Asian tsunami disaster.

The world champion’s gift was announced by his manager, Willi Weber, during a television fund raising gala.

The 36-year-old German, a Unicef goodwill ambassador, is said to be worth more than €425.4m.

He said: "The dawning of the New Year has not been as joyful for us this year because of the catastrophe in Asia. We sympathise with the victims in their grief.”
