Irish economy recorded €33m surplus last year
05/01/2005 - 18:08:02The Irish economy performed ahead of expectations last year.
At the start of 2004, the Department of Finance expected it would have to borrow over €2.8bn.
But Exchequer figures published tonight show a surplus of €33m for the year as a whole.
Tax receipts were €2.2bn ahead of expectations, some of it due to receipts from one-off investigations into offshore accounts.
Government departments spent €343m less than they were allocated in the Budget.
