Newcastle pounce for Boumsong
31/12/2004 - 12:28:28French defender Jean-Alain Boumsong was in Newcastle today after agreeing an £8m (€11.3m) switch from Rangers.
The 25-year-old will become Magpies’ boss Graeme Souness’ second transfer window signing when he follows Celestine Babayaro into St James’ Park as the Scot moves quickly to strengthen his under-fire defence.
“I can confirm that we have an agreement with Glasgow Rangers and an agreement with the player, and the agreement we have with him is a five-and-a-half-year deal,” Souness said today.
“Jean-Alain Boumsong has an agreement with us, we have an agreement with Glasgow Rangers and I can confirm as we speak that he is having his medical.”
