Aid agencies praise Irish response to Asia disaster
31/12/2004 - 13:06:20Aid agencies have praised the generosity of the Irish people following Sunday's devastating earthquake and tsunamis in the Indian Ocean.
As of yesterday, Irish agencies had raised around €1.8m in donations from the public to help the survivors of the disaster, which has claimed at least 130,000 lives.
Concern's Rod MacLeod, who is working with survivors in eastern Sri Lanka, said: "It's been, as usual in these sort of situations, an amazing response and we're certainly doing our best here with Concern to make sure that any money raised is used as quickly and effectively as possible to help those people most in need."
