Sex toys boost for Ann Summers
Sales of Rampant Rabbit sex toys helped Ann Summers ring up a record Christmas, the lingerie chain said today.
Ann Summers said it sold a record number of the vibrators in the run-up to the festive holiday, with Rampant Rabbit Platinum the group’s top-selling product during the period.
The upbeat performance contributed to a 10% increase in group like-for-like sales in December after an identical rise in November.
The chain said its 121 high street shops served one million customers in the eight weeks before the holiday, with many outlets seeing their best-ever Christmas including those in Dublin and at the Trafford Centre shopping complex in Manchester.
The overall top 10 Ann Summers best sellers during the period were the Rampant Rabbit Platinum and Rampant Rabbit vibrators, Allure lingerie, Toffee Body Drizzle, Chocolate Body Paint, Sweetheart lingerie, Naughty Bits Choc Bar, Feather Boa, Thrill lingerie and Promise vibrator.
Chief executive Jacqueline Gold said: “Santa was kept very busy unloading sackfuls of Rampant Rabbits.”
As well as its chain of stores, Ann Summers has a sales force of more than 7,500 women as party planners, an internet site with more than 400,000 visitors a month and annual sales of more than £148m (€209.8m).
The group said in May its pre-tax profits rose to £8.9m (€12.6m) in the year to June 30.
