UN needs €70m for disaster aid
30/12/2004 - 13:38:42A UN agency said it will need more than €70m to provide food to two million people in countries hit by the Asian earthquake and tsunamis.
An initial estimate by the UN World Food Programme put the cost of aid operations in quake-struck countries over the next six months at €73m, spokeswoman Caroline Hurford said.
She said that the agency would ask for funds as part of an overall UN appeal expected over coming days.
