PSNI investigate assault and arson attack

A man in his 50s sustained serious facial and head injuries in an attack in Belfast last night and the house he was in was set alight.

The man was later taken to hospital and treated for his head injuries and for smoke inhalation.

A woman in her 30s, who was also in the house, was also removed to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

The PSNI are investigating the serious assault and arson attack in Ireton Street in the city, that happened at about 7.20pm last night.

The lower-half of the house was reported to have been extensively damaged by the fire that was started when a mattress and some rubbish were set on fire.
