Blair arrives in Ramallah for talks
22/12/2004 - 13:21:33British Prime Minister Tony Blair today met a Palestinian guard of honour at the Muqata'a compound in Ramallah as he arrived for talks about the Palestinian leadership.
Mr Blair walked with Mr Abbas to the glass-walled grave area marking Mr Arafat’s burial place. The two leaders stood in silence for a few seconds and Mr Blair bowed his head.
Mr Blair did not lay a wreath to join the others marking visits by other dignitaries.
Earlier Blair proposed an international conference next year focused on implementing reforms in the Palestinian administration.
Speaking in Jerusalem after talks with Israel Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, he said he hoped the meeting would help prepare the Palestinians for Israel’s planned withdrawal from Gaza next year.
