Delaney loves Villa life
Mark Delaney has spelt out his desire to remain at Aston Villa for the remainder of his career.
Villa boss David O’Leary has already intimated that Delaney, who has 18 months left of his current contract, will be offered a new deal in the New Year.
And the Welsh international admitted he would willing to sign a five-year contract, which would take him up to the age of 33, if it was forthcoming.
Delaney has proved to be one of Villa’s best signings since moving from Cardiff City as a right-back six seasons ago.
This season he has shown his versatility by operating for the majority of the time at centre-back because of injuries to summer capture Martin Laursen and Liam Ridgewell.
Delaney said: “Apart from the injuries I’ve been unfortunate to pick up, I’ve enjoyed all my time at Villa and I’d love to stay here for a lot longer.
“Let’s put it this way, if Villa did come up with a new five-year contract, I’d have no hesitation about signing on the dotted line immediately.
“That’s the way I feel about this club and I believe that things are generally going in the right direction.
“I really can’t see myself going anywhere else in the foreseeable future.”
Meanwhile, O’Leary will be forced to revise at least one of his targets now Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker will be out of action for three months with a broken ankle.
Steed Malbranque, Michael Dawson, Andy Reid and James Beattie are other potential targets for the Villa chief although he has admitted he will probably be only able to bring in one of them next month.
