Govt to blame for inflation, says FG

09/12/2004 - 12:49:20
Fine Gael has blamed Government mismanagement for the rise in inflation announced by the Central Statistics Office earlier today.

The CSO said Ireland's inflation had risen from 2.7% to 2.9% during the month of November, mainly due to the increased cost of education, transport, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

Fine Gael TD Richard Bruton said rising oil prices were causing short-term inflationary pressures, but Government actions were creating more long-term problems.

"The problem is consumers are finding it very difficult to make ends meet and their problems are being compounded by a Government which can't manage funds to deliver quality services within its own budget," he said.

"Every time something goes wrong, they dig deeper into the consumer's pocket to take money out."
