Consumers warned of online banking scam
09/12/2004 - 11:05:59The Irish Payment Services Organisation (IPSO) has warned the public to beware of an e-mail scam designed to steal the account details of people who bank online.
Under the scam, which is known as "phishing", computer users are directed to a website masquerading as their bank's own home page.
The IPSO said Irish people had been targeted in the scam in recent days and it urged everyone to double-check all requests for information like bank account and credit card details.
