IFA Tullamore protest to highlight dropping milk prices

22/11/2004 - 11:17:57
Hundreds of milk suppliers are planning to stage a protest tonight in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

The producers are angry at a price cut of 6c per litre being imposed on the 300 suppliers to Kerry PLC.

Kerry says it has been forced to drop the price it pays to its producers because of cheap imports of milk from Northern Ireland, where production has doubled in the past two years.

The Irish Farmers Association says it is organising the rally in response to what it terms "the severe crisis developing in the liquid milk sector".

Kerry's share price was steady at €18.00 mid-morning.
