Palestinians will reveal cause of Arafat's death

19/11/2004 - 16:28:12
The Palestinian prime minister promised today to make public the cause of Yasser Arafat’s death as an emissary was sent to Paris to pick up his medical records.

It was unclear when Nasser al-Kidwa, Arafat’s nephew who is the Palestinian representative to the UN, would arrive in the French capital.

Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia said there was no doubt that Arafat’s medical records – which French officials have refused to release publicly – would come to light.

“When we get this report, we will study it and hear the opinions of the doctors and then we will inform the Palestinian people with all the details about the health situation of President Arafat and what led to his death,” Qureia said.

French privacy law prevents hospital officials from making Arafat’s medical records public – but they can give them to family members, who can then reveal information if they wish.
