Shelbourne did what was required as they won the point that saw them retain their title from this uninspiring scoreless draw at Richmond Park.
Jason Byrne had a goal disallowed for a foul on Darragh Maguire to signal the only real note of the first half.
Shels continued to press throughout the second period with Byrne planting a free header wide from Ollie Cahill’s cross before skipper Owen Heary’s header bounced up and was tipped over the bar by Brendan Clarke in the Saints goal.
