Ireland's EU Presidency cost €60m

Ireland's EU Presidency cost the State €60m.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern confirmed the figure in the Dáil, in response to a question from Labour Leader Pat Rabbitte.

Mr Ahern denied that the Presidency ran over budget.

The Taoiseach said the cost was spread across a range of services in Ireland and Europe before and during our six-month Presidency, which ended in July.

The costs included official meetings, overseas trips, hospitality, security arrangements, cultural presentations and information services such as the Presidency website.
