Bush appoints Dublin woman to Washington court

US president George Bush has nominated an Irish-born woman to replace a retiring jurist on a federal court in the Washington area.

Bush nominated Jennifer Anderson for a 15-year term as associate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, replacing Steffen Graae.

Anderson, who was born in Dublin, is currently chief of the homicide and major crimes section of the US Attorney’s office for the District of Columbia.

In the late 1990s she was a special prosecutor in the civil rights division of the US Justice Department.

The nomination must be approved by the US Senate.
