At least 50 Romanians deported in night time swoop
17/11/2004 - 10:32:08Over 50 Romanian nationals have been deported - they were flown out of Dublin airport late last night.
It came just hours after the Minister for Justice ruled out an amnesty for thousands of parents with Irish-born children.
Minister Michael McDowell believes around 17,000 people in this category are waiting for asylum applications to be processed.
However, many are still likely to be deported, following the Supreme Court ruling that non-national parents of Irish-born children do not have an automatic right to residency.
