PC users urged to invest in anti-virus software
New research has confirmed that Irish computer users are not doing enough to protect their PCs from viruses.
Even those who have installed anti-virus software are not getting proper protection by failing to update their software.
The research was carried out as part of a Government and business-backed campaign to educate PC users on IT security.
It found that more than four in ten PCs in the home and at work have been affected by a virus.
It also found that while more than 75% have anti-virus software installed, most cannot remember when they last updated it.
Even PC users aware of the security risk and threats caused by viruses and worms are misusing their computers.
Computer viruses cost businesses time and money and ultimately put jobs and profitability at risk.
The research also shows that over six in ten companies have no policy on internet use, which means there are no controls over what enters their networks.
