Number of houses built reaches all-time high

16/11/2004 - 12:51:40
New figures from the Department of Environment show record growth in housing completions for the first nine months of this year.

The number of houses built is up 13.4 % on last year's figure for the same period.

The Quarterly Housing Statistics bulletin shows that more than 12,000 houses were completed in Dublin between January and June 2004, an increase of 15.7% on last year.

Meanwhile in the greater Dublin area, taking in Counties Wicklow, Kildare and Meath, more than 18,000 units were built, representing a growth of 13.1% compared to the same period in 2003.

The bulletin says the average price of a house in this country is €246,000. In Dublin, the average price is €322,000.

Indications from the Department of Environment suggest that the level of house completions this year will exceed that of any previous levels in the history of the State.
