€150m compensation paid to victims of abuse
16/11/2004 - 07:50:57Victims of institutional child abuse have been awarded just under €150m in compensation by the State.
Latest figures from the Residential Institutions Redress Board show that almost 2,000 former institutional residents have been awarded compensation since the scheme was set up.
The highest amount awarded was €300,000.
An estimated 5,000 further potential claimants are thought eligible for compensation.
