Super six on target in qualifying

14/11/2004 - 10:04:14
Six Europeans – Welsh Ryder Cup hero Phillip Price (pictured), England’s Brian Davis, Greg Owen and Sean Whiffen, Scot Alan McLean and Dane Soren Kjeldsen – have earned places in the US Tour qualifying school finals next month.

Davis, Owen, Whiffen and Kjeldsen came through the 72-hole preliminary in Panama City, Florida, while Price and McLean made their marks in McKinney, Texas.

A closing 68 put Davis third, with Kjeldsen two spots back.

Owen, who has recovered from back surgery this year, was sixth and former club professional Whiffen, from Enfield, eighth of the 20 who made it.

With 19 players going through in Texas Price was joint second, but Canada-based McLean squeezed in right on the limit, joint 16th on six over.

Scotland’s Volvo PGA champion Scott Drummond was among the failures, however. After opening rounds of 79, 76 and 76 left him 15 over par in Florida, Drummond withdrew to concentrate on this week’s World Cup in Seville. He partners Alastair Forsyth.
