Smooth Silk on the road to success

14/11/2004 - 11:48:34
Raw Silk can confirm he is a promising young chaser by following up a recent Carlisle success with victory at Leicester tomorrow.

The six-year-old was making his debut over fences when getting the better of the experienced Jodante by a length and a quarter two weeks ago.

He jumped well enough before taking the lead after the last to waste no time in opening his chasing account in what was a handicap.

What was even more meritorious was that it was the Rudimentary gelding’s first run for 14 months.

Now that Penrith trainer Martin Todhunter has him in top shape, Raw Silk can go on to take more races starting with the ladbrokes.com Novices’ Chase at the East Midlands track.

At Folkestone, it may pay to side with Chef Tartare in the EBF/Daily Mail “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier).

Chef Tartare may be one of the lesser lights at Paul Nicholls’ yard but he can step up on an encouraging British bow to get off the mark.

After showing useful placed form over hurdles and fences in France, he found only the odds-on Chilling Place six lengths too good at Exeter earlier this month and can go one better.

Irish raider Amberlina can make it third time lucky in the opening Bet Direct On Sky Active Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Wolverhampton.

The two-year-old filly, trained by Patrick Morris, is making a quick reappearance after finishing second in a claimer over an extended mile over the same track on Friday.

Slowly away, she could not quite get in a blow at Mount Ephram, who got the verdict by a length and a half.

Nevertheless it was a fair effort by Amberlina, who had refused to enter the stalls at Wolverhampton last month after finishing third on her debut at Down Royal in July.

Larad can follow up last month’s course and distance victory in division one of the Bet Direct No Q Banded Stakes.

Stan Moore’s three-year-old landed his second career win by justifying favouritism with a smooth success by a length and three-quarters from Knight Of Hearts.

Lakelands Lady can register her first win for two years in the Bet Direct On ITV Page 367 Banded Stakes.

She showed signs of returning to form when fourth over seven furlongs here earlier this month behind Charlottebutterfly, suggesting she would be suited by dropping back a furlong.

John Balding’s filly took a nursery here in November 2002 and went on to lift two races at Southwell the following month.
