Murphy favourite to take McCoy's Open title
Timmy Murphy is 5-4 favourite with the sponsors to be leading jockey at the three-day Paddy Power Open meeting at Cheltenham this weekend.
He is 11-10 market leader with totesport with Tony McCoy 8-1 to become the leading rider for the fourth year in a row.
Totesport spokesman Damian Walker said: “Timmy Murphy looks to have the strongest book of rides and if recent history is anything to go by he will probably need to have at least three winners to be top jockey.
“He could do that tomorrow with Martin Pipe’s Marcel, Well Chief and Comply Or Die all holding strong claims.
“Tony McCoy, with 15 winners at this meeting in the last three years, is up against it as he misses Saturday through suspension and the O’Neill stable are not firing on all cylinders.
“McCoy’s old boss Martin Pipe has traditionally done well at the Open and McCoy may have to look to Pipe for his best chances again.”
Paddy Power: 5-4 Timmy Murphy, 2-1 Ruby Walsh, 7-1 Carl Llewellyn, 9-1 Tony McCoy, 12-1 Richard Thornton, 14-1 Christian Williams, 20-1 Mick Fitzgerald, 33-1 bar.
Totesport: 11-10 Timmy Murphy, 15-8 Ruby Walsh, 8-1 Tony McCoy, 10-1 Carl Llewellyn, 16-1 Christian Williams, 20-1 Mick Fitzgerald, Richard Thornton.
