Mary McAleese inaugurated as fourth Irish second-term President
11/11/2004 - 13:15:42Mary McAleese has been inaugurated for her second term of office as President of Ireland at a ceremony in Dublin Castle today.
The event was attended by the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, the Tánaiste Mary Harney, members of the Oireachtas and other invited guests.
President McAleese is only the fourth president in Irish history to serve a double term in office.
The moment was marked by music, multi-denominational prayers, a flag-raising ceremony at Áras an Uachtaráin and a volley of canon-fire at Collins Barracks.
Taoiseach Bertie Ahern praised President McAleese for her work in the past and wished her the best in her second term.
