UUP to discuss NI peace impasse in Dublin

21/10/2004 - 07:44:19
Members of the Ulster Unionist Party are due to meet the Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern in Dublin today to discuss the impasse in the peace process.

The delegation will be led by Reg Empey and Michael McGimpsey. The meeting will focus on continuing attempts to secure a deal between Sinn Féin and the DUP to restore the suspended political institutions in the North.

The Irish and British governments have expressed hope that such a deal can be reached within two weeks, though Northern Secretary Paul Murphy did warn yesterday that there were still "tricky" issues to be resolved.

The Taoiseach, meanwhile, is due meet members of the late Pat Finucane's family in Dublin today to discuss the proposed inquiry into the Belfast solicitor's murder.
