UK union merger goes ahead

A merger between two British unions which was held up after a complaint over the balloting process went ahead today after the allegation was dismissed.

Finance union Unifi linked up with Amicus to form an organisation representing more than 1.2 million workers.

The merger had been planned for August but was delayed after a complaint from one member, which has been dismissed by the trade union certification officer.

Unifi general secretary Ed Sweeney said the merged union will be able to campaign harder and recruit more widely.
