Newcastle meeting is abandoned
20/10/2004 - 12:11:20Today’s meeting at Newcastle has been abandoned due to unsafe ground and standing water on the track.
Clerk of the course James Armstrong inspected the track this morning but found there to be areas of waterlogging, forcing him to call off the meeting.
He said: “We have had to abandon. Some areas are unsafe and water is beginning to stand in one or two places.
“We have had about nine millimetres of rain since last night and added to what we have already had in recent days, parts of the track can’t take any more.
“About 85% of the track is raceable but we have had to call it off on the grounds of safety.”
