Harney reiterates vow to ease A&E overcrowding crisis

20/10/2004 - 13:45:12
Minister for Health Mary Harney has reiterated her vow to ease the long-running problem of overcrowding in accident and emergency departments at Irish hospitals.

Speaking in Dublin today, Ms Harney said she was moved by the stories of patients who were forced to wait on trolleys at the Mater Hospital over the weekend.

She also reiterated her plan to introduce measures on health reform in the coming months in an effort to ease the overcrowding.

"I don't want to see anybody in this country experiencing what those people have experienced over the last couple of days," she said.

"It is not acceptable, it is not good enough and it is not going to continue."
