Moon offered comfort to Kiedis

20/10/2004 - 09:22:10
Tragic The Who drummer Keith Moon (pictured) helped keep a young Anthony Kiedis at "ease" during his dad's endless cocaine-fuelled parties.

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers frontman was forced to witness his father John Kiedis II's hedonistic lifestyle and often felt uncomfortable in the company of his intoxicated friends.

But wild rocker Moon - who died in 1978 of an overdose of anti-alcoholism drug Heminevrin - managed to divide his time at John's house between snorting cocaine and looking after Kiedis.

In his forthcoming autobiography Scar Tissue, Kiedis, now 41, recalls: "I was the only child present for all this insanity. For the most part, the adults who didn't know me just ignored me.

"But Keith Moon always tried to make me feel at ease.

"In the midst of this chaotic, riotous, party-life atmosphere where everyone was screaming and shouting and sniffing and snorting and drinking and humping, Moon would take me under his arm and say: 'How you doing, kid? Are you having a good time? Shouldn't you be in school or something? Well, I'm glad you're here, anyway.'"
