Frightfests in store at zoo and Fota
Boo at the Zoo and Boo at Fota, two Halloween-themed events, make a return to Dublin Zoo and Fota Wildlife Park this month.
Boo at the Zoo introduces visitors to the appropriate world of bats, while Boo at Fota focuses on animal myths and superstitions. The events will continue until Halloween, Sunday, October 31.
Visitors to Boo at the Zoo will receive a map, which will guide them around the 27-hectare zoo, where they will discover giant, bat-shaped storyboards, displaying bat-facts.
The event aims to dispel some common myths about bats. For example, bats don’t become entangled in human hair and they are not blind.
Visitors can meet the bat keeper at the Bat Chat in the zoo’s Bat House at weekends and during the mid-term break.
Visitors to Fota Wildlife Park will encounter storyboards focusing on superstitions associated with a wide range of animals.
Visitors will discover why the mandrill is known as ‘the devil of the forest’, and why pirates used to keep macaws as pets.
Children can get their faces painted during Boo at Fota (weekends only) and also enter the Boo competition.
