Murphy expects peace process breakthrough
18/10/2004 - 15:41:24The Northern Secretary Paul Murphy has indicated that a breakthrough in the stalled peace process will happen within the next few weeks.
He was speaking at the British Irish inter-parliamentary body meeting in Wales, where he has said there is seriousness among all the parties in the North to ensure the institutions are restored.
Mr Murphy has said we can look forward to a deal on paramilitary activity and decommissioning shortly and parties working with each other.
“We are talking about having to deal with weeks rather than months for obvious reasons," he said.
“Who knows when there will be a Westminster election, we know that there will be local government in Northern Ireland next year and frankly we can't keep on forever in this position of a suspension of our institutions.”
