Asthma sufferers urged to take measures to control illness
18/10/2004 - 12:36:34Asthma sufferers are being urged to take measures to control their illness and achieve a symptom-free life.
An estimated 400,000 Irish people suffer from the ailment, but half of these are undiagnosed and only 8% have their symptoms fully under control.
Free asthma tests are available at shopping centres throughout Ireland this week, which is Asthma Total Control Week.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative today, respiratory physician Aidan O'Brien said it was possible for asthmatics to live a normal, symptom-free life by controlling environmental factors and taking the right medicine.
