McNulty four clear
Mark McNulty fired an eight-under-par 63 – his best round of the year – to open up a four-stroke lead after the second round of the SBC Championship in San Antonio, Texas.
McNulty – who began the day one shot behind the leading quartet of Dave Stockton, James Mason, Tom Jenkins and Tom Kite – moved to 12 under on 130 at the 6,661-yard Oak Hills Country Club.
The 40-year-old began with three birdies and never looked back, he eagled the par-five 10th hole and birdied four of the next five holes.
McNulty is four strokes clear of Gary McCord, Morris Hatalsky and Dana Quigley, each of whom shot 66.
Bruce Fleisher (66) and Allen Doyle (67) are tied for fifth on 135.
Defending champion Craig Stadler overcame an opening three-over 74 with a 64 to move into a tie for 12th alongside Hale Irwin.
The day’s best round belonged to Gil Morgan, who fired a course-record 62 that included 10 birdies.
