Police accuse Cowell of driving a stolen car
05/10/2004 - 13:19:24American Idol judge Simon Cowell was pulled over by police on Saturday and ordered to prove his $360,000 (€292,000) vehicle wasn't stolen.
The British music mogul attracted an audience of amazed fans in London as he frantically tried to convince suspicious officers he owned the Bentley Arnage.
The 44-year-old says: "I couldn't believe it. They thought I had nicked my car. At the beginning, I thought it was a joke and I was laughing at them and telling them it was clearly a wind-up.
"But the policemen really didn't see the funny side. They asked me if I could prove that the car was mine, and then they asked for proof of identity - which surprised me.
"By the time they were through, a small crowd had formed to watch. They found it all highly amusing."
