Non-EU exports show decrease in August

Seasonally adjusted non-EU exports, as based on seasonal patterns up to December 2003, fell by 8% in August relative to July 2004.

The figures show that exports decreased in August from €2,866m to €2,651m while imports increased by 8% from €1,475m to €1,588m.

The unadjusted non-EU trade for August 2004, relative to August 2003, shows exports went up from €2,283m to €2,410m, arise of 6%, and imports increased by 5% from €1,411m to €1,487m.

Comparing this year's January to August figures with the same period in 2003 shows exports increased by 2% from €21,001m to €21,326m, with computer equipment decreasing from €3,153m to €2,412m, a fall of 24%.

Exports to Japan and Hong Kong grew by 15% and 38% respectively. However, exports to Mexico decreased by 33% while exports to the USA fell slightly from €11,225m to €11,160m.

Imports showed a 3% increase from €11,906m to €12,245m with imports from China increasing by 43% from €1,137m to €1,623m and from Taiwan rising 22% from €478m to €583m. Japanese imports fell 13% €1,358m to €1,180m.
