Russia: Man detonates grenade during drunken row

Several people were wounded when a drunken man detonated a hand grenade during an argument, police said.

The incident happened when a 38-year-old man got involved in an argument with a group of younger people in the industrial city of Rostov-on-Don, about 1,000 kilometres south of Moscow.

The man, who was reportedly drunk, threw a hand grenade at his opponents, wounding a 21-year old woman and several other people, said Olga Kokutkina, a spokeswoman for the regional police.

The woman has had her leg amputated and is in grave condition, while other victims were treated for light wounds.

The attacker was detained by authorities, who were investigating the incident.
