Sutton, Agathe boost Celtic
Chris Sutton and Didier Agathe flew out with the rest of the Celtic squad this morning for their crunch Champions League tie against AC Milan at the San Siro.
Striker Sutton is fighting to recover from a hamstring injury aggravated against Barcelona in the Hoops’ first Group F match against Barcelona a fortnight ago whilst wing-back Agathe returns to the squad after missing out in the Bank of Scotland Premier League match against Dunfermline at the weekend.
Celtic midfielder Stilian Petrov admits the inclusion of both players against the Italians, especially Sutton, would be a huge boost for the Parkhead men.
He said: “Chris and Didier are very important players for us and Chris showed that against Barcelona at Parkhead.
“There’s still another training session to go so I hope everything goes well for him and he is fit for the match.”
The Bulgarian international admits defeat in Milan would spell the end of the Hoops’ Champions League hopes this season.
Celtic lost the first group game 3-1 to Barcelona in Glasgow and Petrov insists another defeat would leave the Scots with too much to do.
He said: “It will be a very hard game for us. Milan didn’t start very well in their championship but I watched their last game against Lazio when they won even though they had only 10 men.
“But if we want to stay in the competition we definitely need to take something from the game and I hope we do it.”
