Second LUAS tram line to open in Dublin today
28/09/2004 - 10:11:26The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Transport Minister Seamus Brennan have officially opened the second line of Dublin's new LUAS tram system.
The Red Line between Tallaght in the west of the city and Connolly Station in the city centre is due to begin carrying passengers from 3pm today.
Travel will be free until the last tram on Sunday night to allow the public to familiarise themselves with the service.
The Rail Procurement Agency has set 43 minutes as the target journey time on the 15km line, which includes 23 stops and crosses 34 junctions.
The first LUAS line between Sandyford and St Stephen’s Green was opened earlier this year. The entire tram project cost €775m.
